Who We Are

At Joseph Sears School, fundamentally we believe that the educational experience of our students thrives when parents, teachers, and staff work together as a community.

The Joseph Sears School Parents’ Volunteer Association (JSSPVA) is at the heart of that collaboration. Every parent at Sears is automatically a member, and together we bring enriching experiences, beloved traditions, and meaningful support to our students, teachers, and staff.

Founded in 1970

What We Do

The JSSPVA is powered by hundreds of parent volunteers who dedicate their time, creativity, and energy to making Sears a vibrant place to learn and grow. Through service, financial support, and a spirit of connection, we:

  • Enhance learning by funding supplemental programming, materials, and equipment.

  • Support our teachers and staff with appreciation events, resources, and year-round encouragement.

  • Foster community by hosting school-wide activities and traditions that bring families together.

  • Celebrate milestones that make a Sears education special and memorable.

JSSPVA Signature Programs & Traditions

From the first-day excitement of Family Fun Day to the cheers of the Turkey Trot, the pages of the Book Fair, and the send-off traditions that honor our 8th graders, the JSSPVA brings to life the programs and traditions that make a Sears childhood memorable. These are the moments families look forward to year after year — the celebrations, the milestones, and the everyday touches that turn a school into a community. Powered by hundreds of parent volunteers and sustained through service, financial support, and a spirit of connection, we're proud to provide:

JSSPVA Strategic Priorities

Everything we do is guided by a commitment to enrich the student experience, strengthen our community, and support the long-term success of Joseph Sears School.

  • Enrich Student Learning — Expand educational opportunities through teacher grants, enrichment programs, and student-centered initiatives that bring the Portrait of a Sears Graduate to life.

  • Strengthen Our Community — Foster meaningful connections among students, families, teachers, and staff through cherished traditions, engaging events, and volunteer involvement. Through open dialogue and inclusive practices, we help every student, family, and staff member feel safe, welcome, and valued. Together we build a community where diverse perspectives are respected and celebrated.

  • Partner with the School — Work hand-in-hand with school leadership to align our resources and efforts with the school's vision and strategic direction.

  • Empower Volunteers — Build a culture of sustainable leadership by providing clear resources, recognizing contributions, and creating meaningful ways for every family to get involved.
